Biography

I graduated from the University of North Carolina-Asheville in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. I received my Master's from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC in 2000 in Marriage and Family Therapy. In 2003 I became interested in acupuncture after a back injury led me to try acupuncture for the first time. I enrolled in a new acupuncture school in Asheville later that year. I graduated from Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts in 2007.

I have worked in private practice in both fields of therapy and acupuncture since my graduations. I have also worked for community mental health centers and Mission Hospital. I currently work at All Souls Counseling Center in Asheville as a therapist where I have worked for over 9 years. I have worked at Daoist Traditions as a clinical supervisor and a qi gong teacher.

I have had many personal interests in my life. I have taken Aikido for over 12 years. In 2015 I took up 2 musical instruments - guitar and violin. I am an avid animal lover with 2 dogs and a cat that are part of my family. I love walks in the beautiful mountains that grace the Asheville area.

Acupuncture

I treat many conditions with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. I work with pain issues, gynecological issues, digestive problems, low energy, GERD, etc. I also work with Chinese Medicine for psychological and emotional issues, such as depression, anxiety, insomnia, PTSD, and more. My training and experience as a therapist allows me to utilize some counseling in a session if emotions are the reason for your visit. Many people find this combination to be very effective in addressing their concerns. I utilize the Primary Channels of Chinese Medicine as well as the extra channels emphasized by one of my teachers Jeffrey Yuen. I also use Chinese herbal medicine, moxa, gua sha, cupping, and tui na as adjunct modalities to my treatment sessions.
